Couples
Therapy

Couples therapy is a type of therapy where two people in a romantic relationship work with the psychologist to address and resolve the issues affecting their relationship. Similar to individual psychotherapy, goals are established and the work is done to achieve these goals. Some goals for couples may include improving communication, resolving conflicts effectively, strengthening the relationship or reconnecting in intimate spaces.
In couples therapy, both partners need to be present. The sessions can be used to discuss the concerns, feelings and behaviours that may be contributing to the relational challenges. In this space, the couples are guided and supported to identify the patterns, triggers and unhealthy dynamics, whilst the psychologist guides or reflects effective communication skills, conflict resolution strategies or ways to rebuild trust and intimacy.
In my therapeutic space, I aim to offer an open, warm and expressive space. I believe that the space is a wonderful opportunity to express and reveal hidden or scared thoughts and feelings that you may not achieve in your relational capacity. In therapy, I will work from either a solution-focused approach or an emotionally-focused approach to assist with the therapeutic goals and to achieve healing for the couple.
Couples therapy can be helpful for addressing issues, such as communication breakdowns, infidelity, sexual concerns, financial stress, or major life changes. It can be beneficial for couples at any stage of their relationship as the aim is to create a healthier, more supportive connection between partners.
